Job Description

What's your URL? I'd love to provide a no-cost initial SEO assessment and what I'd recommend to increase your business.

Yes, that's "business," not just "traffic." For the site's SEO, the first thing you're looking for is keywords in searches that indicate potential buyers -- customers. And that's optimizing on-page text and SEO "metadata" -- URLs, Page Titles, and Page Descriptions that appear in Google search results.

Some freelancers are pitching you "backlinks" to start -- links
from other sites related to yours. For backlinks to be effective,
though, you first must optimize your Page Titles and page text. That
tells Google what keywords you want to rank for. "Black hat"
freelancers, trying to trick Google, backlink dozens of "fake" websites.
Google gives your site an uptick -- but soon Google catches on, and
your rankings drop lower than they were before. Google doesn't like
black hat sites.

I'd love to talk with you about some of my recent SEO projects, each a favorite for a different reason:

- Comprehensive -

Effective ecommerce is more than lists of keywords. Ecommerce SEO is about how customers use keywords to search for your products. Sometimes, though, customers don't even know they need your products, much less know how to Google them.

PocketLab at ThePocketLab.com is a device for measuring properties of physics like temperature, humidity, barometic pressure, altitude, magnetism, and more.

I saved them five figures in ad spend in our very first phone call. As part of my free initial assessment, I'd taken a look at their Google Ads. Their target keyword was "wireless sensor," because that's what they call a device like this in the lab. When actual Google users search "wireless sensor," though, they're not scientists. They're people searching for wireless home security systems. Spending tens of thousands to reach those users had been, and would be, an entire waste.

If users aren't searching "wireless sensor" for a product like this, what are they searching? The short answer: no one. They had created a product for a need people didn't know they had. It's not even a "science toy." It's a pricey bit of fun sophisticated tech ($99) for kids who like doing...

experiments.

You know who else is Googling "experiments," thousands a day?

Teachers.

I optimized the blog, and added impact with social media, for different kinds of "experiments." Teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as basic college courses, found this versatile, affordable, and fun tool they could buy with classroom funds. PocketLab engaged kids and students and it made lesson planning much easier for overworked educators.

PocketLab is in its third iteration as The PocketLab Learning System with cloud-based computing.

- Multiple Keywords -

FantasyFloorplans.com: This site sells an artist's TV show floor plans (blueprints) for fictional homes and workplaces, like the apartment in Friends and Dunder-Mifflin in The Office. I've driven (and sustained) dozens of converting keywords to top 10 positions, many in the top three, many number one. I doubled SEO visibility in six weeks and tripled holiday sales.

- Time to Rank for Multiple Keywords -

AmysCulinaryAdventures.com: I've driven five "local SEO" keywords to the top 10, two of them number ones, and dozens more to SERP 2 and SERP 3. (Local SEO is ranking for keywords in your area.)

- Just Cool -

ESDMustChange.com: Ever heard of a "Google bomb"? My client's son was wrongly expelled from a private school. He launched this site as a forum for parents to vent their grievances. I suggested instead ranking for the school's branded keywords and putting his message in search results for Google users to see.

The school's site appeared at the top of search results -- with my client's site right under it with "4 Reasons Not to Send Your Child to Episcopal School of Dallas." It drained the school's traffic and tainted site visitors. I raised four different *branded* keywords to Google Page One, two above-the-fold. And my client's son got his apology.
